3D Laser Scanning for Marine Vessels is an accurate method of efficiently collecting large amounts of field data or “as-is” data. This can be used for many end goals but with 3d scan data and a model of your boat hull your marine engineer can determine the following.

Project: 64’ Vantaire called the “Knot Accountable”
For example one project that we were part of was that a 64’ Vantaire called the “Knot Accountable” needed to be Retro Fitted. The refit was done by Ocean Pacific Marine generally intended to modernize the vessel and make it more comfortable. The main areas of concentration were to re-configure the aft-deck, update the galley and master state room, upgrade electronics and generators and to add an upper pilot house. Since no current drawings existed Surface and Edge used the Faro Focus 3d Scanner to generate the data and 3DRevEng used that data to produce a 3D CAD model of the vessel. The scan data is so accurate that the design and computerized lofting was completed without any onsite measurements being taken.
Now due to having an accurate model that allowed Ocean Pacific Marine to pre-cut structural components from the CAD model and additions were constructed without using a mold, they used a technique similar to aluminum and steel boat building. Once the computerized cut file was created the data was sent for water-jet cutting of the parts
